Tag!

I was tagged, and it doesn't really fit my blog, so figured I'd post here!

  1. Favorite genre/sub-genre and why? I love fiction. Fantasy, Speculative Fiction and Science Fiction are my favourite, because I feel that there's more room to explore humanity than traditional fiction.
  2. What is your blog theme? Media, feminism, sex, erotica and video games mostly. I like looking at things and analyzing them.
  3. What do your MCs have in common? Hm. Most are females. Most have sex at some point. I'd say the line ends there.
  4. When writing comedy, do you go for giggles or the big laugh? I can't write comedy.
  5. Sex scenes: Explicit or Fade to Black? Explicit please! Unless you can't do it well, then fade to black is fine.
  6. Violence: How much gore is too much? I don't like gore in visual media. I'd prefer any torture or pain is done off screen. Torture porn makes me ill. I can read it, though, but I still prefer it be glossed over. I get tense watching horror films because I really just don't want to see explicit violence.
  7. What kind of props do you use when you write? Notebooks, music, coffee, wine, cat in lap? Just my computer. Maybe music.
  8. Tumblr, Facebook, Tweeter or none of the above? (Alternatives welcome). Twitter please!
  9. What is the genre of your current WiP? I have several WiP. One is contemporary interracial erotica, another is fantasy erotica, another is horror erotica.
  10. What do your favorite authors have in common? Most of them are women. They write fringe material with strong characterization with interesting female characters.
  11. What is your favorite name/naming convention for your MCs? I over use names that end in "A" and begin with "A" "K" and "L".

Hypocracy

I don't know if I should make this a legit blog post or not, but right now I just kinda need to bitch.

This whole 'no rape, incest, etc' in erotica is pissing me off. I don't read a lot of erotica, not really. But I do read a lot of fiction with erotica scenes. Recently I read two books by Jack Ketchum, a really popular thriller author, from what I hear. He has reviews by Stephen King and stuff.

Between the two books I read, both had mention of a very young girl's body in a sexualized manner (10 years old or so), including one 10-12 year old being tied up to a tree by a group of boys and the other 10 year old being grabbed and assaulted by a group of boys.

Both contained a graphic detailing of rape.

One contained incest, though it wasn't detailed.

Both contained detailed accounts of torture, including snuff.

My partner and I's writing has enough plot, and little enough sex, to get away with using the fiction tag. Is that what we have to do to make it so we're not censored? Is it just a war on things that we think are intended to arouse, or is it that we truly don't believe that other authors (V.C. Andrews, Jack Ketchum) aren't intended to arouse despite being detailed in their sex scene?

Why is it okay to read these scenes, and be aroused, only if there's a bunch of plot surrounding it? Why aren't adults being allowed to decide for themselves?

Bleh.

Erotic Fiction Novel?

I'm trying to remember the name of the book that I used to own but I think an exfriend stole. I had posted about this on disturbingbooks a few months ago, but I had no luck. Potentially Triggering / Adult ContentCollapse )

Introduction

Hello to everyone who found this!

I've been on livejournal since they'd 'never have ads on livejournal!' but have fallen to the wayside through so many changes. I figured that I should sign up again, though, and give it another whirl to try to connect with some more writers and authors, especially those who plan on going the indie / self-pubbing route.

I write fantasy, fiction and erotica, sometimes all at once.

I have a site and a blog, if you want to check me out there :) Feel free to friend or follow me on twitter.
